Radisson is set to make its debut in Tenerife with the transformation of a well-known hotel in Puerto de la Cruz, in what is being described as a significant step for the island’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The redevelopment of the historic Parque San Antonio Hotel, which formerly housed Sol Meliá's operations in the Canary Islands, will begin on Friday (2nd May) and is due for completion by 15th December this year.
Once reopened, the property will be rebranded as the Radisson Resort & Residences Tenerife, offering five-star accommodation across 241 rooms. The hotel will be operated by Canarian Hospitality and represents the arrival of Jin Jiang International — one of the world’s largest hotel groups — in the region.
The building was purchased in 2024 from HI Partners, a firm linked to investment group Blackstone, by the Tenerife Assets Company, a collective of local investors. The project will see a complete renovation of the site, with a focus on modern design and sustainability.
Óscar Palacios, Director of Expansion and Institutional Relations at Canarian Hospitality, said the project reflects a broader strategy to return strategic hospitality assets to local ownership and reposition them for long-term growth.
In addition to traditional hotel accommodation, the site will feature a branded residences model, allowing guests to purchase property within the resort while enjoying full access to hotel services. Palacios said the model is becoming increasingly popular in global tourist destinations, such as the Costa del Sol and the Balearic Islands.
Sustainability and community engagement are central to the development, he added. Canarian Hospitality does not operate all-inclusive services at its properties, instead encouraging visitors to explore local food, culture, and businesses beyond the hotel grounds. “We want to contribute to the local economy while offering guests a more authentic experience of the island,” Palacios said.
The project aligns with a broader trend in the Canary Islands to modernise tourism infrastructure while placing greater emphasis on environmental and social responsibility.
