A commercial pilot for Vueling has become an unlikely social media star after a heartfelt message to passengers following an emergency landing en route to Tenerife.
The incident involved a flight travelling from Valencia to Tenerife, which was forced to divert to Seville for safety reasons. While emergency diversions are not uncommon in aviation, it was what happened after landing that has captured widespread attention online.
Footage recorded by a passenger shows the captain stepping forward to personally address those on board once the aircraft was safely on the ground. In a calm and reassuring tone, he explained the situation and apologised for not reaching their intended destination.
“I’m very sorry for the inconvenience of not getting you to Tenerife, but it was the right thing to do. We did the right thing,” he said.
He went on to offer his “sincere apologies”, a gesture many passengers described as unusually personal and empathetic.
Passengers respond with praise
The reaction from those on board was immediate, with several travellers taking to social media to express their gratitude. Many highlighted the pilot’s professionalism and his ability to remain composed under pressure.
Some comments accompanying the viral video go even further, with passengers saying: “He saved our lives.”
More than just procedure
While the emergency landing itself followed standard aviation safety protocols, it is the captain’s communication that has struck a chord. Social media users have widely said that such direct, human interaction from a pilot after an incident is rare.
The video continues to circulate online, gathering thousands of views and serving as a powerful reminder that clear communication and empathy can make a significant difference in high-stress situations.
