National Geographic features La Gomera on the front cover as ‘hikers paradise’

The National Geographic travel magazine places La Gomera as "hikers paradise" in its new January issue. The most respected travel magazine on the shelves features the island on the cover of its latest publication, which came out on Friday, and has an 18-page editorial in which its natural benefits are valued, including the best laurel forests in the Canary Islands and the excellent conservation of the island.

The Ministry of Tourism for La Gomera explained in a press release that the National Geographic magazine visited the island in November to see it first hand, to be able to write about it from their own experiences.

The report features spectacular photographs that take a tour of the island's landscape, passing through the Garajonay National Park, a World Heritage Site since 1986, the El Cedro forest and the Roque de Agando; the Natural Monument of Los Órganos, the viewpoint of Abrante, in Agulo; the rocks of Pedro and Petra, in Hermigua; the Juan de Vera ravine in San Sebastián; the hermitage of San Isidro in Alajeró, and the landscape of terraces and whale watching in Valle Gran Rey.

Throughout the article, all corners of La Gomera are explored, paying special attention to the tradition and history of the Island associated with them. Likewise, special attention is paid to the network of more than 650 kilometres of trails that the Island has, which positions it among the best destinations in Europe for hiking and active tourism.

Gastronomy is another of the fundamental pillars of La Gomera, and this is also reflected through mentions of its cheeses, gofio, and the process of making guarapo and palm honey, as well as the variety of crops that they grow on the island.
