The Policía Nacional has launched three new mobile offices in the Canary Islands so people can apply for or renew their ID cards and passports more easily. Two of these units will cover the province of Las Palmas, and one will cover Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

These mobile offices will travel to towns and villages across the islands, including remote areas, so residents no longer need to make long journeys to the nearest police station. It takes around ten minutes to issue or renew a document, and unlike the old mobile service, everything can now be completed in a single visit.

As well as issuing ID cards and passports, the mobile units will offer several other services. People will be able to renew their digital certificates, change or check their PIN using fingerprint identification, confirm the authenticity of documents and register their ID with the new MiDNI app.

This app will be launching in 2026, and will act as a secure digital ID that can be used for everyday activities such as collecting parcels, checking into hotels or even voting.

In the first phase, the service will visit several Gran Canaria municipalities, including Agaete, Artenara, Arucas, Firgas, Gáldar, La Aldea de San Nicolás, Moya, Santa Brígida, Santa María de Guía, Tejeda, Teror, Valleseco, Valsequillo and Vega de San Mateo. The mobile offices will be available from Monday to Friday, visiting each town roughly every 20 to 25 days. To use the service, residents must book an appointment through their local council, which will confirm the date and time of the visit.

This initiative is part of Spain’s National Digital Identity Plan and is funded through NextGenerationEU. It also includes the introduction of new self-service document update points and faster “DNI Express” stations. The aim is to make ID services faster, easier and more accessible to everyone in the Canary Islands.
