A 23-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody after a series of break-ins at luxury homes in Arguineguín, in the south of Gran Canaria. The suspect allegedly scaled walls up to 4 metres high to access properties, sparking concern among residents in the area.

The Guardia Civil in Puerto Rico, in the municipality of Mogán, confirmed the arrest following several similar incidents reported earlier this month. The burglar is believed to have acted with at least one accomplice, who has not yet been found.

According to investigators, the suspect wore a hood and sports clothing to conceal his identity while targeting high-end residential properties. In several cases, he climbed perimeter walls and entered homes while owners were either inside or away, causing alarm among local residents.

In one incident, the suspect climbed onto pergola roofs in an attempt to reach upper-floor rooms, damaging security systems in an effort to avoid detection. Despite this, CCTV footage captured images that later proved key in identifying him.

In another break-in, he entered a private garage after scaling a wall and stole two personal mobility vehicles worth around €900. Police said he showed increasing boldness, carrying out offences in daylight and even when alarms were active.

A third attempted burglary followed a similar pattern, with the suspect checking doors and windows on the terraces without regard for security systems. Witness statements and security footage confirmed his movements across multiple properties.

Officers were able to identify the suspect quickly, noting he had been detained just days earlier for a separate offence. Matching clothing, including a distinctive jacket and cap, helped link him directly to the burglaries.

He was found and arrested on 11th April in the Playa de Mogán area with the support of the local police. Authorities confirmed he has a history of offences, including theft, assault and criminal damage.

Residential burglaries of this nature are considered serious offences due to the intrusion into private homes and the psychological impact on victims. The incidents had unsettled the local community, particularly in a popular area for both residents and visiting tourists.

Following his arrest, the suspect appeared before a court in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which ordered his pre-trial detention due to the seriousness of the case and his criminal record. Investigations remain ongoing, and officers are continuing efforts to identify and locate the second suspect.
