Three Canary Islands remain under yellow weather warnings today, Monday, as strong winds and rough seas continue to affect the archipelago, according to the latest forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency, AEMET.

Forecasters say powerful gusts are expected throughout the day, particularly on exposed south-east and north-west coastal areas of the mountainous islands. More coastal alerts for dangerous sea conditions will come into force from 6:00pm in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and El Hierro.

The weather is expected to remain largely unchanged across the islands, with cloudier conditions in northern areas and mostly clear skies elsewhere. Some light drizzle could develop early in the morning in higher inland areas of the larger islands.

Temperatures will stay stable overall, although some parts of the south-facing midlands in Gran Canaria could see highs reaching 30°C.

Strong winds and hazardous sea conditions

At sea, north-easterly winds of force 5 to 6 are forecast, strengthening locally to force 7 offshore around the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and parts of Gran Canaria, excluding southern coastal areas.

The rough sea conditions are expected to bring strong swells and locally heavy seas offshore, with northerly waves between one and two metres. Authorities are advising swimmers, small boats and water sports users to take extra care, particularly along exposed coastlines.

Island-by-island forecast for Monday 8th June 2026:

Tenerife
Tenerife will start the day with cloudy skies concentrated mainly across the north of the island below 900 to 1,000 metres, while the south and coastal tourist areas are expected to remain mostly sunny and dry.

There is a small chance of light drizzle during the early hours in north-eastern midland areas, particularly around higher inland towns exposed to the trade winds. Conditions are expected to improve gradually through the morning, with brighter spells developing later in the day.

Strong trade winds will continue to affect exposed coastal and mountainous areas, especially on the south-east and north-west slopes where occasional very strong gusts are possible. Beachgoers and hikers are being urged to remain cautious in exposed areas.

General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 27°C, but could get warmer in southern resorts during the afternoon.

Gran Canaria
Northern parts of Gran Canaria will remain mostly cloudy throughout much of Monday, particularly below 900 to 1,000 metres. Early morning drizzle cannot be ruled out in midland areas, especially inland northern districts.

The south and tourist areas will enjoy sunnier conditions, with only occasional high cloud expected.

Strong winds are expected across exposed areas of the island, especially along eastern and western slopes and higher ground. Coastal conditions will deteriorate later in the day as the yellow warning for rough seas comes into effect from 6:00pm.

Offshore conditions around the island are expected to become particularly rough overnight, with strong swells and increasing wave heights affecting Atlantic-facing coasts.

General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 26°C. However, temperatures in inland southern, eastern and western midlands could climb to around 30°C during the hottest part of the day.

Lanzarote
Lanzarote will see cloudy intervals across northern and western areas during the morning, although clearer skies are expected to develop gradually through the afternoon.

Southern parts of the island will experience longer sunny spells, particularly during the middle of the day, making for generally pleasant conditions despite the persistent breeze.

Trade winds will remain moderate to strong at times, especially in exposed coastal zones and elevated inland areas. Seas around the island are also expected to remain choppy, with stronger Atlantic swells affecting open coastal areas.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 26°C

Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura will begin Monday under largely cloudy skies, especially across northern and central parts of the island. However, conditions are expected to improve during the morning, leading to mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies for much of the afternoon.

Cloud cover is likely to increase again later in the evening, particularly in northern coastal areas exposed to the trade winds.

The island will continue to experience breezy conditions throughout the day, with stronger gusts possible in exposed coastal and elevated areas. Sea conditions are also expected to remain unsettled, especially along the north and west coasts.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 25°C

Please remember:
It’s important to be aware that the Canaries consist of micro-climates across the islands due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will generally be cooler at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, and can be very different just a few kilometres away.
