John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson arrive in the Canary Islands
Hollywood star John Travolta has landed in Gran Canaria to begin filming his latest project, Black Tides. The film is directed by Finnish-born Renny Harlin, best known for blockbuster hits of the 1990s, including Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, and Deep Blue Sea.
In Black Tides, Travolta plays Bill Pierce, a father who, after years of estrangement from his daughter, attempts to reconnect with her and his grandson during a trip at sea.
Their reunion takes a dramatic turn when a pod of killer whales threatens their lives, setting the stage for a high-tension survival and action story.
Adding to the excitement for film fans, Samuel L. Jackson is also on the island, reuniting with Travolta three decades after they became one of cinema’s most iconic duos as Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction. The pair also appeared together in the 2003 thriller Basic, directed by John McTiernan.
Filming will take place across several locations in Gran Canaria starting this week, although the production company Nostromo Pictures is keeping the exact sites under wraps for safety and security reasons.
The Canary Islands are no strangers to Hollywood, with some of the world’s biggest blockbusters choosing the archipelago as their backdrop. Tenerife was transformed into a high-speed chase location in Fast & Furious 6 and even appeared in the Jason Bourne saga.
Fuerteventura’s wild volcanic landscapes stole the show in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Wonder Woman 1984, and Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings.
Gran Canaria has also hosted stars like Brad Pitt in Allied and Sacha Baron Cohen in The Dictator, while La Gomera doubled as the Pacific Ocean for Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.
Now it’s John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson’s turn to make movie magic in the Canaries, as filming for Black Tides gets underway in Gran Canaria.
