Injured runner rescued by helicopter after suffering a fall and spending the night outdoors

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported that an injured runner was rescued by helicopter yesterday (Saturday) after suffering a fall on the Risco de Famara in Lanzarote and spending the night outdoors on the trail as he couldn’t walk.

They first received a call informing them that the man had been injured at 9:00pm on Friday night, and the terrain he was running on meant he couldn’t get back.

Firefighters, the Local Police, and the Guardia Civil carried out searches during the night but weren’t able to locate him, and had to abandon the search until the morning.

Fortunately, the GES rescue helicopter spotted the runner on the Risco de Famara trail yesterday morning (Saturday), who was injured after suffering a fall and managed to airlift him on a stretcher and fly him to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife where he was treated for his leg injury and exposure after spending the night outdoors.
