Important changes in traffic due to the Ed Sheeran concert in Tenerife

The council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced changes in traffic and public transport for tomorrow (Saturday) in preparation of the Ed Sheeran concert at the CD Tenerife football stadium, with some roads closed and several diversions.

The roads around the stadium will have restricted parking and access including Avenida de San Sebastián, at the access to Calle Heliodoro Rodríguez López and Fernando Barajas Prats/San Sebastián.

Parking will be prohibited on Calle Heliodoro Rodríguez González from 8:00am on Saturday until the end of the event, on both sides of the street, except for twenty disabled parking spaces for vehicles with permits.

For Calle Lope de Vega, on the right-hand side, from Calle Garcilaso de la Vega to Calle Góngora, the same parking restrictions and access restrictions apply, except for taxis.

Finally, the section of Calle Góngora from Calle Lope de Vega Street to San Calle Sebastián, on the left side, has the same restrictions with the same hours, except for taxis.

To encourage the use of public transport, the Council has authorised the free circulation of all taxi licence holders for 12 hours between 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon until 2:00am on Sunday so that more are available.

The tram will be available three times, one between 3.30pm and 11:00pm, and the other two, depending on demand, between 4:00pm and 11.30pm.

In addition to the tram, TITSA has also arranged for an increase in the frequencies of bus lines 934 and 908. Thus, the first will reinforce its route with a departure at 11:10pm and will run every 30 minutes between 9:30pm and midnight.

Line 908 will be reinforced by increasing its frequency to every 15 minutes until 10:00pm, and from then on it will run every 30 minutes until 11:40pm.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, thanked everyone for their understanding and their joint efforts to make this event a safe success for everyone, while “inviting attendees to arrive early to avoid crowds and follow the instructions of security personnel,” as well as to use public transportation as much as possible to reduce traffic jams.

The councillor for Transport, Evelyn Alonso, said that “we have implemented all the security measures possible for an event of this magnitude so as not to hinder vehicle and pedestrian traffic, with the modifications and security areas correctly signposted and marked.”

Lastly, New Events, the concert promoters, have reminded parents the importance of completing a liability form for any minors attending the concert. It has to be completed by the legal guardian and taken with you in event of any incident during the concert involving under age drinking, smoking, or any other infraction. The form is available to download from their website.
