A 50-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after suffering from a cardiorespiratory arrest due to drowning in a hotel pool in Tenerife yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The 112 call centre received an alert for assistance at 2:15pm informing that lifeguards were assisting a holidaymaker who had suffered a heart attack in the pool of a hotel in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz
SUC medical personnel along with a doctor and a nurse from the local health centre, who were dispatched to the scene, verified that the man was still in cardiorespiratory arrest when they got there, so they continued to perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres, successfully restoring his pulse.
Once stabilised, he was transported in critical condition via a medicalised ambulance to the HUC Hospital in La Laguna for urgent treatment. Paramedics have emphasised how crucial the first assistance from lifeguards was in successfully saving the man’s life.
The Local and National Police collaborated with other emergency resources throughout the incident, and are investigating what happened.
