Covid update: 15 more deaths as cases and incidence rates drop again

The Ministry of Health has reported 2,327 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today taking the total number to 249,952 since the pandemic began, with 99,100 still active, of which 94 are admitted to ICU and 611 are hospitalized.

In the last 24 hours, the deaths of 15 people have been reported, nine men and six women, aged between 59 and 93 years old. Of the total number of deceased, nine were recorded in Tenerife and six in Gran Canaria, all of whom had previous pathologies and were hospitalized.

7-day incidence rates have started to drop quickly with the downward trend of cases, and it is now 683.79 for the islands as a whole, with Tenerife having the lowest rate of just over 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

As expected the 14-day rates are taking longer to come down, but the R rate of contagion has dropped to 0.72 and the PCR positivity rate to 20%. All this will be reviewed by the Governing Council in tomorrow’s weekly meeting when they will decide if any of the islands will change levels due to the evolution of their data.
