Countdown to October 20 protests: Times and locations of the demonstrations

Tomorrow, Sunday, October 20th, demonstrations calling for a change in the Canary Islands' social and tourism model will take place in tourist resorts across the archipelago and beyond. These protests are part of a continued effort to address the crisis of mass-tourism and the strain on resources that the islands are facing, following similar demonstrations held on April 20th.

Under the slogan "Canarias tiene un límite" (The Canary Islands have a limit), organisers aim to draw attention to the government's perceived inaction on these issues. Protests will take place not only in various locations throughout the Canary Islands but also in several cities across mainland Spain and Europe.

Schedule and Locations

According to several organisations, including Atan Tenerife, the protests in the Canary Islands will begin at midday on Sunday. Below are the specific meeting points for each island:

  • Tenerife: CC Metropolis, Las Americas
  • Gran Canaria: Expomeloneras, Maspalomas
  • Lanzarote: Plaza de Las Naciones, Los Pocillos, Puerto del Carmen
  • Fuerteventura: Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Corralejo
  • La Palma: Calle La Carrilla, Los Llanos de Aridane
  • El Hierro: Calle Doctor Quintero, Valverde

Protests outside the Canary Islands will take place at the same time in these locations:

  • Barcelona: Plaza de Colón
  • Valencia: Plaza del Ayuntamiento
  • Granada: Plaza Nueva
  • Madrid: Ópera
  • Berlin: Neptunbrunnen

Organisers are expect a large turnout, particularly at the rally in Tenerife, as momentum grows in the lead-up to the event. Extra police will be deployed to ensure that there in no trouble at any of the demonstrations.
