Although the jackpot prize, known as El Gordo, once again bypassed the Canary Islands, the Christmas Lottery still left more than €4.6 million across the archipelago, with four of the major prizes falling partially in the Islands.

According to figures, a total of €4,648,000 was shared between Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and El Hierro, thanks to one third prize, one fourth prize and two fifth prizes. The largest single amount came from one of the fifth prizes, number 60,649, which alone distributed €2,280,000 through a single lottery outlet in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The third prize, number 90,693, also brought a big win to the Islands, paying out €2,150,000. However, this amount was spread across twelve different lottery administrations on four islands: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and El Hierro.

In contrast, no major prizes were sold this year in Fuerteventura, La Palma or La Gomera.

Gran Canaria emerged as the island with the highest total winnings, receiving €2,630,000, followed by Tenerife with €1,912,000. Lanzarote collected €56,000, while El Hierro received €50,000.

In Tenerife, the La Chasnera petrol station in Granadilla sold seven tickets for the third prize, worth €350,000, as well as one ticket for a fifth prize worth €6,000. Another well-known petrol station, El Bohío in La Matanza, beside the TF-5 motorway, sold ten tickets for the fourth prize, number 25,508, distributing €200,000.

Most of the prize money in Tenerife was concentrated in the north of the island and the metropolitan area, including La Victoria, Los Realejos, Santa Cruz, La Laguna, Puerto de la Cruz and Icod de los Vinos. The only exceptions were La Chasnera and a ticket sold in Tamaimo, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide.

El Hierro received a smaller share of the third prize, with one ticket sold in La Frontera, awarding €50,000. In Lanzarote, the town of Yaiza shared €56,000 across two tickets: one for the third prize worth €50,000 and another fifth prize ticket, number 77,715, worth €6,000.

In Gran Canaria, aside from a single third prize ticket sold in San Fernando de Maspalomas, the bulk of the winnings were concentrated in the island’s capital. Six third prize tickets were sold there, totalling €300,000, along with 380 tickets for the fifth prize 60,649, which together accounted for €2,280,000.

That fifth prize was sold by Lottery Administration number 50, located inside El Corte Inglés in the Siete Palmas district. The number was widely shared among employees of the shopping centre, as it was a regular subscription number distributed within one of its departments.

The owners of the lucky administration, Susana Alcántara and Juan Manuel Izquierdo, said they were “very happy and excited” because the prize was shared among people who had been playing the number for years. They confirmed that many of the winning tickets went to employees, making the result especially meaningful.

The same number, 60,649, was also held by staff from the Intensive Care Unit at the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria, who have reserved it for more than eight years and had secured around 60 tickets this year.

While El Gordo itself did not land in the Canary Islands, some islanders may still benefit indirectly, as at least one ticket of the winning jackpot number, 79,432, was reportedly bought by a supporters’ group of UD Las Palmas in the town of La Bañeza, in the province of León.
