A Christian association has demanded the withdrawal of a new safe-sex campaign launched by the Government of the Canary Islands for Carnival, claiming the message is “harmful, perverse and vulgar”.
The Instituto de Política Social, a privately run Christian social-political group whose board includes a priest, criticised the campaign for using a Carnival kazoo as a visual pun alongside the slogan: “Do whatever you fancy, but if it makes a noise… use a condom.”
The organisation argues that the campaign “normalises hypersexualisation” and exposes minors to explicit content funded with public money. It also claims the slogan violates constitutional principles, insisting that public administrations must act objectively and within the law.
According to the group, a government body “cannot use sexually explicit or degrading language” nor circulate publicly funded messages “without age restrictions”. They maintain that the safe sex message is inappropriate for institutional communication and sends the wrong signals during cultural events such as Carnival.

The regional government has not yet responded publicly to the complaint.
