A school in the Canary Islands is evacuated after a bomb scare

A secondary school in Gran Canaria was evacuated yesterday (Wednesday) after receiving an anonymous call warning of a bomb threat at 1:15pm. Staff at the IES Teror in Las Palmas quickly activated the protocol and got everyone out of the school as quickly and smoothly as possible as the police arrived on the scene.

The building was searched by the Guardia Civil bomb squad who verified it was a false alarm, and they have opened an investigation into the source of the call to track down the person responsible.

Following this, the schools’ management confirmed that the centre was staying closed for the rest of the day and that pupils should go home or be collected by their parents with all classes resuming as normal today (Thursday).

According to police sources, they already have some firm leads and are confident of finding the caller that made the hoax call soon.
