Firefighters were called to a fire at an estate agency in the popular Lanzarote resort of Playa Blanca after flames broke out shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

The incident happened at around 12.20am at commercial premises on Calle Azores, close to the health centre in the Yaiza tourist resort.

Yaiza Local Police raised the alarm and firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium were sent to the scene. Guardia Civil officers also attended.

Pergola and windows damaged

When emergency crews arrived, the fire was affecting part of the estate agency premises.

A wooden pergola was damaged by the flames, while glass windows at the property were destroyed.

Smoke also spread through the remainder of the premises.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control and extinguished it before carrying out ventilation work to clear smoke from the building.

Once the fire had been extinguished, crews inspected the damaged premises and removed broken glass that presented a potential risk of falling.

Local Police and the Guardia Civil assisted during the operation, helping to secure the area while firefighters completed their work.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed in the information released by the emergency services.

Playa Blanca is one of Lanzarote's busiest holiday resorts, with a large concentration of accommodation, restaurants, shops and other businesses serving residents and visitors in the south of the island.
