An earthquake measuring 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale has been recorded between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, according to reports from the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The tremor seas recorded yesterday, Thursday, at a depth of 19 kilometres in the underwater volcanic area known as Enmedio. Although it was felt by some residents, officials have not yet confirmed exactly which areas experienced the movement.
Part of ongoing seismic activity
This latest tremor forms part of a series of recent seismic events detected in the same area. In February, the IGN recorded a stronger earthquake measuring 4.1 in magnitude at a depth of 10 kilometres. That tremor was widely felt and described as having moderate intensity.
Earlier, on 21st October 2025, another earthquake measuring 3.2 was detected during the early hours of the morning.
No link to Teide activity
Despite the recent increase in seismic activity, experts have reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm. INVOLCAN (Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias) previously confirmed that earthquakes in the Enmedio volcanic area are not linked to seismic swarms recorded around Mount Teide.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Low to moderate magnitude earthquakes are relatively common in the Canary Islands and rarely cause any damage.
