Emergency services in Lanzarote were called to a popular coastal viewpoint after a 12-year-old child was spotted taking photos on a cliff edge in dangerous conditions. The incident happened at Los Hervideros, in the south of the island, where strong waves and winds pose a constant risk.

Crews from the island’s Safety and Emergency Consortium arrived at the cliffside and found the child with family members in an exposed area close to the edge. The site is known for rough seas and sudden surges, making it particularly hazardous for visitors who get too close.

Officers warned the family about the danger and advised them to leave the area immediately to avoid a serious accident. No injuries were reported.

Los Hervideros is one of Lanzarote’s most striking volcanic landscapes, attracting visitors with dramatic views of waves crashing against the cliffs. However, the same conditions that make it scenic also make it unpredictable and unsafe in certain areas.

Authorities are reminding both residents and tourists to follow safety guidance and avoid restricted or unprotected coastal zones, especially during periods of strong swell. Sea conditions can change rapidly, increasing the risk of falls or being swept into the water.

Recent incidents across the Canary Islands have highlighted the dangers of ignoring safety warnings, particularly in coastal areas popular for photos. Emergency services stress that such situations can quickly turn serious, especially when children are involved.

Visitors are urged to stay within designated viewing areas and keep a safe distance from cliff edges at all times.
