TUI UK cancels travel to amber list countries until June 28th, but not the Canary Islands

TUI UK has cancelled all travel to destinations on the UK amber and red lists in Europe until June 28th, except for the Canary Islands and some of the Greek Islands, whereas Turkey and Egypt are among those cancelled. TUI are offering trips from the UK to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife from tomorrow, May 27th, and on June 7th they will also start operating to  La Palma.

Although Spain, including the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, are classified as amber destinations by the United Kingdom traffic light system, the Foreign Office does consider the Canary Islands a safe destination due to the low incidence of the virus and the geographical location of the archipelago as an ‘outer region’.

Destinations on the amber list that are cancelled are: Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Tunisia, plus holidays to Cape Verde and Turkey, which are on the red list, are also cancelled.

Other destinations that appear on the amber list, but where it continues to operate are all in the Caribbean: Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Varadero (Cuba).

TUI are also offering test packs to travellers on package holidays from £20 a person for green list countries and £50 a person for amber list countries, although no test is required to enter the Canary Islands.

The President of the Canary Islands Government, Angel Victor Torres, said yesterday that he is expecting an announcement from the UK in the next few days which puts the Canary Islands on the green list of travel from June 7th... TUI seem to agree with him!
