After stopping activity completely on Monday morning, the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma has come back with a vengeance spewing more lava higher, hotter, and faster than before after a series of explosions on Monday afternoon, as reported by Involcan. However, they have said that the explosions recorded at this time are typical of a strombolian-type eruption like this one.
As you can see on this live feed from Television Canarias, the island is looking eerie as the lava, ash, and gases are being emitted from the main cone again which will continue to push the flows closer to the sea on the west coast of the island. So far, 46.3 million cubic meters of magma has already been emitted, surpassing that expelled in the Teneguía eruption in 1971, and 567 tons of Sulphur Dioxide a day is being emitted.
Involcan explained on Tuesday that the decrease and increase in activity for this type of volcano is normal, and more big explosions are not ruled out.
