The Government finalizes the regulation that will legalise their extra restrictions

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has confirmed that the Regional Government has finalized the norm that will give legal coverage to those health measures and restrictions that have been used during the pandemic, and will avoid being "at the mercy of judicial decisions” in the future.

Torres, who was attending events yesterday to celebrate the feast of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, told journalists that this new regulation will be approved during the month of August in an extraordinary Governing Council and then decreed in the BOC.

He said that doubts are being cleared about its content and various aspects are being discussed with the Ministry of Health because many of their measures worked during the pandemic but there have been difficulties in adopting them since the state of alarm finished in May.

The head of the Canarian Government also said that this rule will clarify certain aspects questioned by the courts, and as an example, he cited that with respect to capacity, court rulings established higher capacity for level 4 than level 3 in some situations, which doesn’t make sense, so it is necessary to normalize this situation.

Torres added that the Canary Islands will be at the forefront with this regulation, which will also generate health security for sectors such as tourism.
