Covid update: Canary Islands adds 190 new infections and four deaths

The Canary Islands have registered 190 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours, bringing the total accumulated cases to 45,033 infections, with 4,271 active cases, 141 less than yesterday. In addition, according to the data registered by Health, there are four new Covid related deaths, three of them in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria.

The Ministry of Health data shows that the new infections in Tenerife total 86; in Gran Canaria 82; in Fuerteventura 21; on Lanzarote 5, on La Palma 2, on El Hierro none , and on La Gomera, none. Of the active cases 73 are in the ICU, and 310 are hospitalized on wards, which is 22 more than yesterday, and 3,888 are being treated at home.

The Ministry of Health has announced that they are to extend the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine to age 65. Until now, it was being administered to essential workers under the age of 55 such as fire-fighters, State security forces and teachers, among others, also to health workers who do not work on the front line and, subsequently, to the general population of between 45 and 55 years old.
