280 new cases today and over 100,000 people in the Canaries have had Covid

The total number of people that have tested positive in the Canary Islands for Covid-19 now stands at 100,262 following 280 new cases today, with 2,173 active cases of which 159 are in hospital, 22 are in ICU and 1,992 are in home isolation. They have also confirmed one Covid related death in Gran Canaria meaning that 1,030 people have died due to the virus.

Following yesterday’s review of the epidemiological situation in the islands, Lanzarote is now in alert level 2 and will start the relevant restrictions from 00.00h on Monday. The review reflects the increase in incidence rates which are continuing to rise, with the IA7 for the islands now at 67.74 and the IA14 at 115.72, which is at medium risk.

After yesterday’s announcement of the level change for Lanzarote, they warned that Tenerife and Gran Canaria could face the same next week if the upward trend continues, and reiterated that imported cases from tourists and irregular immigrants only account for less than 10% of the cases, so the residents of the islands account for over 90%.

For this reason, they are asking people to be more strict with themselves and others with capacity rules, using masks, distancing, group sizes, and physical contact if they want to avoid more restrictions.

Here is confirmation of the alert levels for each island:
