Covid update: Over 200 new cases again in the Canary Islands with two deaths

The Ministry of Health has announced that 218 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Canary Islands in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of accumulated cases to 44,211 since the pandemic began. In addition they have reported two Covid related deaths, both in Tenerife, meaning that 639 people have lost their lives in the archipelago to the virus.

Of the new cases Tenerife has the most again with 94, followed by Gran Canaria with 87 and Fuerteventura have 27. These three islands which are currently in reinforced alert Level 2, have seen cases and incidence rates increase since being starting in this level on Monday.

They have also reported that there have been 104 new outbreaks this week with 574 cases, of which 10 have required hospital admission. Of these 53 have occurred in Tenerife, 39 in Gran Canaria, eight in Fuerteventura, three in La Palma and one in Lanzarote, and 46 are family outbreaks, 34 social, 16 work, five educational, two sports and one health.
