Covid update: Total deaths pass 600 after four more in Gran Canaria
The Ministry of Health has reported that this Wednesday there have been 191 new cases of coronavirus detected, which takes the accumulated total to 41,203.Of the new cases, Gran Canaria has the most again with 90, followed by Tenerife with 81 new positives, Fuerteventura with 9, and Lanzarote adds just 5.
They have also reported of four Covid related deaths, all of which are in Gran Canaria, meaning that in total over 600 people have now lost their lives in the Canaries, and 200 of them are in Gran Canaria.
The number of active cases and people in home isolation continues to drop, thanks to 390 medical discharges today, 267 of which are in Gran Canaria, and in fact there is less than 200 active cases difference between there and Tenerife as of now.
This number of discharges has meant a drop to 5,030 active cases and 4,672 in home isolation, with 283 in hospital wards and a further 75 in ICU. At the moment Gran Canaria is seeing most of the recoveries due to the ‘Covid cycle’ which sees a general recovery pattern as follows:
- Average 2 weeks if home isolated.
- Average 4 weeks if hospitalised.
- Average 8 weeks if in ICU.
This means that data can decrease relatively quickly if people newly diagnosed only need home isolation and not to be admitted to hospital. This is why now, there is a downward trend in Lanzarote, as they are seeing the hospitalised patients being discharged as well, and why their active cases have plummeted to 121 on the island, and their incidence rates to 35.46 and 112.29 over 7 and 14 days respectively.
