Covid update: Canaries exceed 34,000 infections by adding 337 new cases

The Canary Islands has registered one death today in Gran Canaria and raises the total of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 512. In addition, the islands add 337 new infections, thus exceeding the barrier of 34,000 cases since the start of the health crisis.

Of these, 8,075 are still active, 68 are in Intensive Care (ICU), 348 are admitted to hospital wards (12 more than yesterday) and the rest, 7,659 are being treated at home. In the last 24 hours there have been 432 epidemiological discharges that raise the accumulated total to 25,734.

The Accumulated Incidence (AI) over seven days stands at 92.88 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the AI ​​at 14 days at 187.15. To date, 773,308 PCR tests have been carried out on the islands, of which 4,431 were in the last 24 hours.

In just 48 hours the Ministry of Health has adapted an annex building to the Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Lanzarote as an extension and back up of beds for Covid patients.

Within their Contingency Plan, these offices have been converted into rooms with the capacity to house 15 possible patients, and a computerized Nursing control has been arranged and they are equipped with monitoring devices.
