Covid update: 280 new cases, Tenerife has 4 deaths in last 24 hours

The Ministry of Health have released todays coronavirus update which shows that 280 new cases have been detected in the Canary Islands in the last 24 hours, 111 of them in Gran Canaria, 77 in Tenerife, and 74 in Lanzarote, who have passed the 3,000 cases mark. They have also reported of five Covid related deaths, 4 in Tenerife and 1 in Gran Canaria.

As of today 47,485 doses of vaccine have been administered, which is 99.12% of all delivered to the islands, and so far 2,865 people have now had both jabs and are heading to maximum immunisation.

Tenerife continues its downward trend, but residents are reminded that although restrictions have been downgraded to Level 2, with the addition of groups of six people allowed to meet from Monday, the virus is still present and there are still 4,371 active cases on the island.

In the south of Tenerife there are still 650 active cases, and there are reports of a potential outbreak in Adeje, thought to be Callao Salvaje but not confirmed yet, after a British couple (residents) refused to self isolate after testing positive for the virus, until police intervention to get their contact list for the track and trace teams who will be contacting people in due course for testing.

As of today the Canary Health service have carried out 758,761 PCR tests since the beginning of the pandemic, with 38,831 testing positive, a rate of 5.12%.
