Arona Council asks for clarification about of closing hours at night time

The Security Councillor of Arona City Council, Francisco Marichal, has asked the Government today (Monday), for a clarification of the closing hours for hospitality venues as many chose to stay open until 2am instead of closing at midnight after the ‘precautionary’ suspension of level measures by the TSJC on Thursday, leading to a ‘free for all’ in the Veronicas and San Telmo areas of the municipality.

Marichal has indicated that the majority of municipalities in the south of Tenerife allowed venues to close at 2am because "it is not clear" that they should do so at midnight after the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands annulled the limitation hours of establishments at alert level 4.

"There is a lot of confusion” said Marichal, “we are not clear whether they should close at twelve or two, which is crazy as now they are closing later in Level 4 than in Level 3!”He also said that there is "a lot of pressure from the sector itself” and that the municipalities are "in limbo" as they lack a clear regulation about closing times.

Last week, the Canarias de Noche nightlife association announced that if the Canary Islands Government does not show willingness to propose a date to allow them to re-open in the next few days, they will go to court and contest their ongoing closure.
