A Guardia Civil officer has testified that the woman accused of killing her partner in Costa del Silencio, Tenerife, asked him the day before the incident what would happen if she killed someone. The officer, who was formerly her brother-in-law, told the court that on 5th July 2023, she phoned him sounding drunk, distressed and incoherent, and asked what the consequences would be if she took someone’s life. He said he told her it was “madness” and that she could face up to 20 years in prison.

His statement was given during the second day of the jury trial, which centres on the discovery of a man’s body inside the woman’s home in Costa del Silencio, where the second accused, with whom she was also allegedly in a relationship, was present at the time.

The officer said he initially did not take her comments seriously because she seemed very upset, depressed and emotional. During the call, she also told him that on the night of San Juan, barely a week earlier, the victim had become jealous after seeing her with other men and had assaulted her “brutally”. He said he had always urged her to report the abuse.

The victim’s mother testified that her son had spent the entire day with her in San Isidro before receiving a call around 8 pm, telling her he was going to the accused’s home. He told his mother that if he did not return, it was because he had stayed at her house. He left around 9 pm and never came back.

The court also heard allegations of two overlapping relationships involving jealousy, drug use and violence. The accused’s sister said the family had known the deceased all their lives and that the relationship began naturally, but they became concerned when they saw he was encouraging her to take hard drugs. She added that the accused had spoken of suicide just a day earlier and maintained that she was also in a relationship with the second defendant, whom she described as “very, very, very jealous”. According to her, the deceased supplied her sister with drugs and abused her “physically and mentally”.

The accused’s mother also placed responsibility on the deceased, saying she had known him for years and believed he had drawn her daughter into drug addiction, leaving her weighing only 50 kilos. When she learned what had happened, she said she felt some relief that her daughter was not the one who had died, but regretted never filing a complaint earlier. She told the court she once received a message from the victim by mistake, sent to her daughter, saying: “You are the love of my life. Take care. I will love you always. I don’t have long left.”

She added that she never approved of either man as a partner for her daughter, describing one as violent and abusive and the other as obsessively controlling to the point of harassment.

A neighbour who lived directly next door said she did not hear any noise on the afternoon of the killing because she had been cleaning her patio, but said the accused “often held parties” and had previously told her that the deceased had badly beaten her with a stick. She said she urged her to go to the doctor and the police. The neighbour said the woman “always lived in fear” and that it did not surprise her that she had talked about suicide the day before.
