VIDEO: Police break up a mass brawl in a shopping centre in the Canary Islands
The Guardia Civil were called to an incident at the Papagayo Shopping Centre in Playa Blanca (Lanzarote), in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday) after a fight broke out in the commercial centre between shop owners and a gang of youths.
The altercation reportedly originated from a dispute between the business owners and a group of youths, for which, the exact reasons remain unknown. Security personnel on site tried to control the situation, but were unable to do so, and needed the Guardia Civil to intervene and dissolve the tense situation before it got out of hand.
This video, published on Lancelot Digital, captures a segment of the confrontation before the arrival of the Guardia Civil’s Rapid Response Group (GRS), who apparently came to Lanzarote to support their colleagues in the mass eviction of squatters from residences in Playa Blanca.
In addition to the private security at the shopping centre, both the Local Police and the Guardia Civil were needed to handle the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, but the business owners and authorities are emphasising the need to bolster security measures in the area as, they say, this is not an isolated incident.
