VIDEO: A supermarket is robbed at gunpoint by man wearing a clown mask

CCTV footage has been released by the police, of an armed robbery in a supermarket on Tuesday night, by a man wearing a clown mask carrying a pistol. The incident took place at the Covirán supermarket in the small town of Nazaret, which is in the centre of Lanzarote, at 8.45pm which is 15 minutes before the store closes.

One of the owners of the supermarket chain that extends throughout the Canary Islands said, “This looks like a scene from a movie, but it is very real. We have never experienced a robbery like this, with someone entering brandishing a gun. We don’t know if the weapon is real or not, but the man can be seen pointing it at the cashier who has been traumatised by the incident.”

He went on to say that they are guessing that the robber hit the store at this time of day to get the maximum amount of money but confirmed that tills are emptied on a regular basis and don’t carry much cash, especially as these days most people pay by card.

As you can see in the video, the robber, who in addition to the mask wore a tracksuit and a hoodie, entered the establishment quickly, pointed a gun at the cashier and took everything that was in the till before leaving. The whole incident lasted for less than a minute.

The Lanzarote police have opened an investigation and are asking anyone that may have any information to contact them so the assailant can be caught and brought to justice.
