A violent street fight in the early hours of Friday morning in Tenerife ended with two men being arrested, one for a stabbing and the other for throwing a rock.
Both men were injured and required medical treatment following the incident, which occurred around 5:00 am near the Zurita Bridge in Santa Cruz.
Emergency services were alerted after reports of a man being stabbed. National Police officers arrived at the scene and detained both individuals: the suspected knifeman, as well as the man who had allegedly thrown a rock at him.
According to reports, both men are of Moroccan nationality, and at least one is believed to be homeless. The dispute began when one man, who had been sleeping rough on Calle Obispo Domingo Pérez Cáceres near the Zurita tram stop, was approached by the other and provoked.
The altercation escalated when one man threw a large stone, reportedly hitting the other in the head, causing a wound that required stitches. In retaliation, the injured man drew a knife and stabbed his attacker three times, once in the side, and twice in the shoulder and collarbone area.
Despite the nature of the attack, medical staff assessed the stab wounds as non-life-threatening. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but was discharged later in the day.
The 32-year-old man accused of the stabbing remains in custody at the South District Police Station in Santa Cruz, awaiting a court appearance. The 36-year-old victim was also formally arrested for his role in the confrontation.
