A wave of sadness has swept across Lanzarote following the death of 12-year-old Noe, a child well known on the island for helping clean local beaches alongside his older brother and parents.

Noe passed away last Wednesday in a hospital in Portugal, nine days after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle. The tragic news only became public yesterday (Monday).

Born to Swiss parents, Noe spent almost his entire life in Lanzarote before the family relocated to Portugal a year ago, where the accident occurred. Despite moving away, the family remained active members of the environmental group Lanzarote Limpia, returning to the island during holidays to take part in beach clean-ups.

In tribute to Noe, Lanzarote Limpia has announced a special beach-cleaning event on Sunday, 8th February, at Playa Vicenta in Teguise, inviting the community to honour his memory.

Rest in peace, Noe.
