Despite the Canary Islands Government declaring a pre-alert situation across the islands due to coastal phenomena on the north and west coasts of the archipelago and the activation of yellow alerts by the State Meteorological Agency, several tourists decided to ignore the closure of access to the Ajuy Caves in Fuerteventura, "putting their lives in danger."
The Cabildo’s Department of Security and Emergencies, posted images and videos on their X (Twitter) profile yesterday (Friday) which showed: “tourists ignoring the closure of access to the Ajuy Caves and putting their lives in danger,” and said that they acted with a “totally irresponsible attitude”.
This is in response to an alert being declared in the municipality of Pájara in Fuerteventura where the caves are located, with access to the area being closed off yesterday morning due to the dangers imposed along the entire coastal area of the municipality from ‘adverse coastal phenomena’ causing dangerous sea conditions, and safety advice being issued for the safety of the public.
