The Canary Islands start the week with yellow and orange weather warnings

The Canary Islands are set to begin the third week of the year with various active weather warnings. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued yellow warnings for wind from today, Monday, January 15th, in Tenerife and La Palma starting from 6:00pm.

In La Palma, the entire island will be affected, although the strongest gusts will come from the southwest, affecting summits and northwest and northeast slopes. In northern Tenerife, the warnings will impact central summits and high areas, with expected maximum gusts reaching 80 km/h.

Orange Weather Warning:

Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16th, the wind risk will escalate to an orange warning level on both islands, extending until 9:00pm and maximum gusts are forecasted to be 90 km/h, potentially locally exceeding 100 km/h.

Additionally, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro, and the rest of Tenerife will be under a yellow wind warning on Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h.

The southwest wind will primarily affect La Gomera and El Hierro's summits and north slopes, and the east of Tenerife. In Gran Canaria, maximum gusts will be 70 km/h, mainly affecting the northwest and east of the island.

Rain on Tuesday:

Aemet has also activated a yellow warning for rain in La Palma tomorrow, Tuesday, with 15mm per hour expected in the east of the island. Heavy or frequent showers are more likely on the west slope and may be accompanied by thunderstorms, with 60mm of rain per hour.
