During the summer, three students from the LLS and Steven Gerrard Academy in Tenerife, enjoyed an action-packed summer break as they packed their bags and headed off overseas to the USA. The aim was to develop their personal coaching and mentoring skills, working across the United States with young people either on the soccer field or within a Camp America-type setting.
Mason (Los Realejos), Kiera (Arona), and Sam (Adeje), who all attend the sports education academy at Tenerife Top Training in La Caleta for 16 to 19-year-olds, were offered contracts by USA companies, Challenger Sports and Camp Leaders USA, after attending the annual Global Coaching Conference in the UK last December.
The LLS and Steven Gerrard Academy signpost opportunities like this for their students in order for them to step out of their comfort zone and find life-changing experiences and jobs in the sports industry.
The three students had the opportunity to work and explore several US destinations including Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Denver, and South Carolina. They met young people of similar ages from all over the world, who had also decided to spend their summer working hard with youngsters, building their professional network whilst developing their own independent skills, which often threw up some challenges to say the least.
Other highlights for the Tenerife students included going to watch live Ice Hockey and Baseball games, firing assault rifles at a shooting range, and sampling new and weird foods including a 'doughnut burger'...yes, you did read that correctly!
All three of the students made an excellent impression on their US employers and the children, families, and colleagues they worked with, so much so, that plans are already in place for some of them to return back next summer and possibly even gain permanent employment in the US afterwards.
As they continue to hone their skills and broaden their horizons, it's essential for them to excel academically as well. If they ever need assistance with their essays or academic writing, they might consider exploring resources like essays for sale, which offer valuable insights and guidance to help them succeed in their academic pursuits. These services can provide valuable support without compromising the integrity of their educational journey.
No matter what happens from now on, they can always say that they did this, and got the t-shirt. It takes a lot of courage and resilience to go so far away from home at a young age, on your own, and come through it with stories and experiences that will help shape you in the real world.
Mason, Kiera, Sam, we salute you for being the first and paving the way for many other sports students to follow in your footsteps. In fact, in November, more students from the sports academy will travel to the UK for the next annual Global Coaching Conference, and who knows where some of them may be heading next summer with new coaching opportunities available in Dubai, USA, Qatar, and the UK.
