Six people have been injured, two of them seriously, after a head-on collision between a car and a lorry on the LZ-2 road linking Yaiza with Playa Blanca in Lanzarote.

The accident happened at around 4.15 pm yesterday (Thursday) when the Canary Islands’ emergency coordination centre, CECOES 1-1-2, received a call reporting a serious crash in which the car overturned following the impact.

Emergency services rushed to the roadside, where paramedics treated two women aged 72 and 70 who had suffered severe multiple injuries. Both were taken to hospital in medicalised ambulances.

Four other people were also injured in the crash. Two men aged 78 and 72, along with two women aged 58 and 30, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.

The collision forced the temporary closure of the LZ-2 as the damaged vehicles were left blocking the roadway. Drivers were required to turn around and use alternative routes, including the parallel road or access via Femés.

Firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium rescued one person who had become trapped inside one of the vehicles and secured the area. Officers from the Guardia Civil managed the traffic and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
