The 23rd edition of the Tenerife Classic Car Rally, the largest regularity rally of its kind in Spain, began yesterday morning (Friday), captivating motor enthusiasts from across the island.
Setting off at 9:30am from García Sanabria Park in Santa Cruz, the rally paid tribute to the victims of the floods in Valencia with a minute’s silence. All participating cars are displaying black ribbons, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion.
The rally began with a showcase of modern high-performance vehicles, including Ferraris, McLarens, and Lamborghinis, in the special "Tribute" category.
Shortly after, the main contenders, classic cars registered between the 1940s and 1970s, took to the road. Among the automotive gems were Jaguars, Mercedes, Triumphs, Alfa Romeos, Austins, and BMWs, with a total of 89 models across 25 car brands taking part, highlighting the event's rich automotive heritage.
The first stage of the rally enjoyed favourable weather, as participants left Santa Cruz and travelled through Machado and El Tablero, eventually taking the scenic route via El Portillo to cross Las Cañadas del Teide. From there, they descended through Chío to the breathtaking Los Gigantes cliffs for their first stop. The route then continued north through Santiago del Teide, Garachico, and Icod, concluding at Puerto de la Cruz along the TF-5 highway.
With its blend of classic cars and spectacular landscapes, the XXIII Clásica Tenerife remains a beloved event, celebrating both Tenerife’s rich automotive culture and its scenic routes.
