Tenerife’s fire crews were called out to dozens of incidents across the island over the weekend, many of which were due to strong winds that caused hazardous conditions in public areas.
Teams based in Santa Cruz and La Laguna, along with local volunteers, were dispatched to various locations. Most of the wind-related calls involved fallen barriers and objects posing a danger to pedestrians and vehicles.
In addition to weather-related incidents, firefighters from Santa Cruz were also called out to extinguish a fire in an abandoned vehicle parked on Calle Juan Yanes Perdomo in the area of Vistabella.
Earlier that afternoon, crews from the San Miguel de Abona fire station were deployed to Costa del Silencio in Arona, in the south of the island, where they assisted the emergency services in rescuing a person who had fallen from a jet ski.
They also tackled two separate vehicle fires, one on Calle San León in Arona and another on Avenida Abona in Granadilla.
On Saturday, crews from Guía de Isora and local volunteers responded to a fire involving a Balinese-style bed located on the outdoor terrace of a hotel room at the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.
Also on Saturday, at around midday, emergency teams from Icod de los Vinos were called to a road traffic accident on Avenida Los Chincanayros involving two vehicles. One person was trapped inside a car and had to be freed by firefighters before being transferred to an ambulance.
