A shopping centre in Playa Blanca was evacuated on Saturday evening after a suspicious object was discovered, prompting a full security protocol by the Guardia Civil. The incident happened at around 9:00pm in the Marina Rubicón shopping centre.
As a precaution, everyone inside the building was ordered to leave while officers assessed the situation, given the possibility that the object could have been an explosive device.
Specialist agents inspected the object and later confirmed it posed no threat, describing the incident as a false alarm. Once the area was declared safe, people were allowed back inside the centre and normal activity resumed.
The police stressed that the evacuation was carried out as a precautionary measure and that at no time was the public in danger.
In recent years, shopping centres, airports and tourist areas have occasionally been cleared after suspicious objects were reported. Almost all of these cases turned out to be false alarms, but authorities emphasise that strict protocols must always be followed to guarantee public safety.
