The Ayuntamiento of Teguise has completed major improvement works across its schools to ensure facilities are ready for the start of the new school year. The €271,765 investment, financed through the Lanzarote Cabildo’s Cooperation Plan, was considered a priority due to serious problems with insulation and wear.

Among the biggest upgrades is the replacement of deteriorated metal window frames at CEIP César Manrique in Tahiche, which is now finished, and at CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spínola in La Villa, where work is nearing completion.

In addition, painting and refurbishment work has been carried out in the town’s smaller rural schools and other education centres, with the aim of welcoming pupils and teachers into safer and more comfortable classrooms from the very first day of term.

Mayor Olivia Duque said the improvements “fulfil the commitment we made to the education community to have schools ready before the start of classes. We begin the year with centres in much better condition, while also planning further improvements in the months ahead.”

Councillor for Works, Eugenio Robayna, explained that alongside the completed carpentry and painting works, other projects are being prepared in response to requests from school management teams. These include the installation of shaded areas at the Teguise school, perimeter painting, and additional maintenance works across several centres.

Meanwhile, Education Councillor Mar Boronat emphasised that the works “reflect our promise to listen to the real needs of families and teaching staff.”

The council’s overall objective is to ensure that all eleven schools in Teguise provide safe, accessible, and modern learning spaces, contributing to the well-being of the entire education community.
