Salvar La Tejita urges PSOE to investigate Adeje mayor over Cuna del Alma project

The environmental group, Salvar La Tejita, has called on Spain’s ruling Socialist Party (PSOE) to open an internal investigation into the Mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, over his handling of the controversial Cuna del Alma tourist development near Puertito de Adeje in the south of Tenerife.

The group has sent detailed documentation to senior PSOE figures, including the party’s new Organisation Secretary, Rebeca Torró, Territorial Coordination Secretary Anabel Mateos, Transparency and Democratic Action Secretary Borja Cabezón, and Municipal Policy Secretary Alejandro Soler.

Allegations of corruption, misconduct and negligence

In its communication, Salvar La Tejita highlights alleged irregularities in Rodríguez Fraga’s performance of his duties, citing possible “corruption, misconduct and negligence” not only in relation to the “shameful case” of Cuna del Alma, but also in other matters within the municipality, such as Imegal, Monkey Beach, and local taxi concessions.

The association says it is “optimistic” following recent statements by PSOE leader and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who has pledged to root out corruption within the party and renew the government. Salvar La Tejita hopes the party will act “coherently” with these declarations by launching a formal inquiry.

The platform has also requested an independent audit of the building licence granted for the Cuna del Alma project, to include reviews of environmental assessments and documents from the Adeje Compensation Board.

A long-standing mayor under the spotlight

José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga is a prominent figure in Canarian politics and has served as mayor of Adeje since 1987, shaping the municipality over nearly four decades. He is also the president of the PSOE for the Canary Islands as well as the founder and president of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC).

As environmental and community groups continue to push for transparency, this case is likely to be closely watched by both residents and the many tourists who flock to southern Tenerife each year.
