Pájara has closed all municipal facilities and raised red flags on all beaches

The Pájara City Council has closed all sports and socio-cultural facilities in the municipality for today (Saturday), due to the rain alert issued by the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands on the island of Fuerteventura.

According to AEMET forecasts, the rains could reach up to 30 litres per square metre in one hour during today, prompting the Government group to decide on the closure of municipal facilities, as well as the suspension of outdoor activities.

Yesterday (Friday), the Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, along with the Councillor for Security and Emergencies, Raimundo Dacosta, and the head of the Local Police, Lorenzo Hernández, took part in a technical meeting with the Fuerteventura Cabildo to address the situation and activate the Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN).

The activation of this plan puts all the emergency services, as well as Civil Protection, Local Police, and Firefighters, on alert in case of an increased number of alerts and situations to attend because of the weather.

Likewise, the public are requested to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from river beds where water flows have and will be excessive.

The Pájara Tourism Department will also inform local guides and excursions to act accordingly with caution. Additionally, the municipality announces the closure of access to the Ajuy Caves and has hoisted red flags on all beaches in the municipality to ensure safety until the weather alert ends, after an alert was officially issued yesterday afternoon.
