New sewage discharges force beach closure in Punta Mujeres

Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, the Haría City Council took the decision to enforce a new closure of the bathing area between the natural pools of El Cura and El Pichón in Punta Mujeres, on the northeast coast of Lanzarote due to another sewage discharge affecting the water.

The prohibition will remain in effect until further notice, pending confirmation from health authorities that the area is safe and poses no risk to human health.

Similar to the previous incident on January 29th, when a sewage discharge occurred, the Haría City Council has once again notified the Consortium for Security and Emergencies of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Seprona, Canal Gestión company, and the Consortium of Water of Lanzarote to address the underlying causes of these repeated discharges.

The Mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, has demanded a thorough review of the water infrastructure in the area to prevent a recurrence that could jeopardise the health of beachgoers and tarnish the image of one of the most visited bathing areas in northern Lanzarote.
