There is nothing quite as joyful as the arrival of new life and at Loro Paque, the joy is being felt in both water and land! The popular wildlife park in Tenerife is currently celebrating a remarkable baby boom, having welcomed a wave of newborns across numerous species.

These births are not just sheer luck, however. They are representative of the park’s ongoing biodiversity and conservation efforts, giving them the well-deserved title of an “Animal Embassy”

Marine highlights

The marine habitats at the Loro Parque have been brimming with excitement following the birth of several charismatic youngsters.

A major new arrival among them is Teno, the orca calf born to Morgan, who’s proven to be an exemplary mother. Her attentive care, together with the team’s close monitoring and adjustments to her diet, has led to a highly positive development in Teno’s first months.

Equally heart-warming is the arrival of Estrella - a bottlenose dolphin calf and the latest addition to the park’s thriving dolphin family. Born to Luna, Estrella has been delighting visitors with her playful energy and beautiful interactions with her mother. Both are thriving under the watchful care of the marine mammal specialists.

Moreover, the park also proudly announced the birth of a sea lion calf named Ozzy (a name chosen by more than 9,000 social media followers following the death of legendary rocker, Ozzy Osbourne). His energetic personality has already made him a visitor favourite and, being one of 26 births of this species at the park, he’s yet another example of Loro Parque’s standing position as a reference in sea lion breeding and care.

Diversity on land

The baby boom does not end with marine life, as the park’s terrestrial residents have also been welcoming adorable new arrivals!

A particularly meaningful event is the birth of a two-toed slot, the offspring of devoted parents Pauline and Hugo. This slow-moving yet precious youngster is part of the EAZA Ex-Situ Programme (EEP) - an internationally coordinated population management initiative aimed at safeguarding vulnerable species. The sloth, who is in perfect health, is a conservation achievement and a symbol of Loro Parque’s continuous contribution towards wildlife diversity.

Adding to the joyful atmosphere, not one but four capybara pups have joined the park’s capybara family. The world’s largest rodents, originating in South America, are known for their sociable and gentle nature. Their playful presence has been bringing smiles to guests of all ages at the park.

The “why” - A welfare testimony

Behind every successful birth at Loro Parque are years of dedication and an experienced team of experts, including veterinarians, biologists and caretakers. The team here works around the clock to ensure optimal conditions for each species, from nutrition needs to social dynamics.

Animals only reproduce when they feel secure and healthy, which speaks volumes about the park’s commitment to animal welfare. So, these new arrivals are not coincidences, but rather proof of a thriving ecosystem for the wildlife, within an expertly managed environment and state-of-the-art facilities.

A celebration of life

As the baby boom continues, Loro Parque reaffirms its mission as the "modern zoo". Each new birth is not just a conservation success story, but a symbol of hope for the future - one where wildlife flourishes. Closing the year on an optimistic note, the visitors are eagerly awaiting Loro Parque’s future announcements of new life!
