Minibus fire causes traffic disruptions in Teguise

Emergency services were called to the scene of a vehicle fire in the town of Los Valles, in the municipality of Teguise, Lanzarote, yesterday afternoon (Saturday), after a minibus belonging to the company Teguise Bus caught fire on Calle Sigone.

The incident occurred when flames broke out in the engine compartment of the vehicle, prompting immediate concern from bystanders and a swift response from emergency crews.

The Canary Islands’ Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES), received the alert and quickly mobilised necessary resources to the scene of the incident.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the fire was concentrated in the engine area, and worked quickly to contain and extinguish the blaze, first using high-pressure hoses and later applying foam to ensure full suppression and eliminate any risk of reignition.

The authorities have confirmed that no injuries were sustained in the incident as there were no passengers on board at the time, and the driver escaped unharmed.

As a precaution, the road was temporarily closed to traffic while emergency teams carried out their operations. Local Police officers from Teguise were also on scene, cordoning off the area and assisting with traffic control to ensure the safety of nearby residents and drivers.

The fire was brought under control without further incident, and the road was reopened shortly afterwards. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire, although initial indications suggest a mechanical or electrical fault may have been to blame.
