A 44-year-old man was seriously affected by smoke inhalation on Friday evening after a fire broke out in a third-floor apartment on Calle Pedro Barba, in the municipality of Arrecife, Lanzarote.

The incident occurred at 6:50pm prompting multiple emergency services to respond after the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a 1-1-2 alert reporting the blaze.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and ventilated the building to remove lingering smoke. Meanwhile, SUC medical teams assessed the affected man, who was found to have severe smoke inhalation, stabilised him at the scene, and transported him in a medicalised ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa where he was admitted for further treatment.

Local Police secured the area and carried out the necessary reports, while Civil Protection volunteers assisted emergency teams throughout the operation.
