In a surprising turn of events, a man in Fuerteventura was arrested after he reported a robbery at his business which led authorities to uncover a cannabis plantation on his property.
The discovery was made during a joint operation by Tax Agency Customs Surveillance officers and the National Police.
The incident began in September when the man reported a burglary at a property he rented and managed as a cannabis association. Following his complaint, an investigation was launched, which ultimately revealed the presence of a marijuana plantation on a farm in his name that had previously been used for livestock activities.
Investigators gathered sufficient evidence to conduct a search of the property where more than five kilograms of marijuana buds, 448 grams of hashish, 131 marijuana plants weighing 8,083 grams, 6.70 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 2,660 grams of CBD, an autonomous electricity generator, tools used for growing marijuana and 1,050 euros in cash were seized by police.
Following this, the man who had initially reported the robbery was arrested, and the plantation was dismantled.
Authorities have highlighted the case as an example of the unpredictable outcomes of some investigations. The detainee now faces charges for a public health offence, with further legal proceedings expected.
