The lifeless body of an 81-year-old man was discovered floating in the sea near Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen, in Lanzarote this afternoon (Tuesday), as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
They received a distress call just before 2:00pm reporting the sighting of a person without vital signs floating in the sea. Responding swiftly to the alarm, members of the EMERLAN Rescue Service located him, pulled him from the water onto their boat, and quickly transported him to the Varadero dock where medical personnel were waiting.
Unfortunately, after assessing the man, they found there was nothing they could do to revive him, and pronounced him dead.
Following the confirmation of death, the Guardia Civil took custody of the deceased's body to secure the scene and await the arrival of judicial authorities, who initiated the necessary investigative procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
This is the second recovery of a lifeless body near Lanzarote in recent weeks, with authorities continuing to investigate potential causes and circumstances related to these unfortunate incidents.
