Hot and rainy across the Canary Islands with strong winds and possible storms

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are forecasting stormy weather and strong southern winds on the western slopes of the Canary Islands today, Tuesday.

According to their latest forecast, light showers are expected in the eastern islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura), with stormy conditions in the western islands, i.e. Tenerife and the smaller islands.

100 kilometres per hour winds are expected from the south on the west side and in the peaks of the western islands, and a light haze is expected in the eastern islands until early this afternoon.

At sea, winds are forecasted to be between Force 3 to 5 on the west and east coasts, locally reaching Force 6 offshore in the extreme east and west. In other areas. Sea conditions will range from rough to very rough on the west and east coasts and slight to moderate elsewhere, increasing to rough in the south.

Swell from the west is expected to be between 1 to 2 metres, rising to between 2 and 3 metres at the end of the day, and reaching between 3 and 4 metres offshore in the northwest. Occasional showers are expected, occasionally intensifying into storms.

Island-wise weather forecast for Tuesday:

LANZAROTE

Intervals of medium and high clouds with a low probability of weak and occasional showers. This afternoon, the skies are expected to become mostly clear with intervals of high clouds. Light haze is not ruled out during the first half of the day.

Minimum temperatures will experience a slight to moderate increase, while maximum temperatures will see few changes. Winds will be light to moderate from the south, turning to moderate from the southwest during the morning, with strong intervals in the west and north during daylight hours.
Temperatures: highs of 25°C and lows of 17°C.

FUERTEVENTURA

Similar to Lanzarote, there will be intervals of medium and high clouds with a low probability of weak and occasional showers in the north and west. After lunch, the skies are expected to become mostly clear with intervals of high clouds. Light haze is not ruled out during the first half of the day.

Temperatures will see a slight to moderate increase, with maximum temperatures experiencing few changes. Winds will be light to moderate from the south, turning to moderate from the southwest in the morning, with strong intervals in the west and north during daylight hours.
Temperatures: highs of 26°C and lows of 18°C.

GRAN CANARIA

Intervals of medium and high clouds, with skies tending to become partly cloudy in the west and south this afternoon. There is a strong probability of occasional, generally weak showers, especially in the southwest of the island.

Temperatures will experience a slight to moderate decrease in the interior and west, with few changes in other areas. Winds will be light to moderate from the south, turning to the southwest from noon. Strong southwest winds, turning to the west later, with very strong gusts during the morning and afternoon, mainly affecting peaks and slopes in the northwest and east.
Temperatures: highs of 27°C and lows of 19°C.

TENERIFE

Predominantly cloudy skies with moderate and occasional showers during the first half of the day. Localised strong showers, especially in the west of the island, and isolated thunderstorms are not ruled out. In the afternoon, skies will tend to become partly cloudy, with a low probability of weak rain in the west and inland, and mostly clear skies with intervals of high clouds in other areas.

Temperatures will experience a slight to moderate decrease in inland areas and the west, with few changes elsewhere. Winds will be moderate from the south, turning to the southwest in the morning. In mid-altitude areas and peaks, strong southwest winds are expected, turning to the west later in the day, with some very strong gusts, primarily affecting peaks, the eastern slope, and the northern slope of the metropolitan area.
